Howyadoin from Portage, WI
« on: Time Format »

Hey errabody! I finally got myself over here now as I can officially call myself an ADA owner again. Lemme splain...

I play bass and sing in Ov Moros, a progressive doom metal band with (Admin) Kim. Through a deal that we couldn't refuse - that of purchasing a Quad Tube combo for an insanely small amount of money through a seller on Craig's List - I ended up inheriting Kim's Viper combo.

I don't know if he's talked about the Viper on here, as I haven't done a whole lotta searching around on the forum yet, so what I say here might be redundant.

The "Green" or clean channel operates just fine. The "Red" or dirty channel wasn't but in the last couple days of messing with it, it does work, but without the volume that it should. But even that is changing. As I played it - as the amp stayed on and warm longer - the volume on that channel got louder. Sometimes you could even hear it actually increase drastically a couple db. The tone is great and the volume is acceptable for recording, that's for sure. I know a guy a few towns over who might be able to help me get it back to A1 condition though so we'll see how that goes.

Anyway thereyago. Have a great weekend errabody!  :metal:

Welcome to the Depot!!

Are you one of those bass players (like mine) that plays through a bass amp and a guitar amp to fill the sound?

Hey Stan

Thanks MarshallJMP  :waving-banana-smiley-emoticon

I am originally a guitarist from the beginning (37 years now) but took up bass in the early 80s because there was a lack of bass players around. It made it easier for me to sing at the same time also. I have tried the bass through the Viper and it's pretty sweet. So if I ever need a small combo for some situation I know what to use. I also thought about using it as a pre section for a driven sound (gritty to outright distortion) for the larger bass rig, but until I get the Red channel fixed, there's no trusting it.

Hey Dante!  :waving-banana-smiley-emoticon

I like to use some drive/dirt/distortion depending on the song. Over the years my influences have included Tom Petersen (Cheap Trick), Doug Pinnick (King's X), and recently Vanja Slajh (Triptykon) for their use of driven bass. Doug Pinnick's setup used a Traynor tube guitar combo at one time as the pre-section to drive his distorted sound. Currently my choice is an ART SGX LT guitar preamp/FX processor that I then feed into my Behringer BX4500H bass head so I get clean and dirty channels with whatever fx I may want. The amp head feeds 2 4x10s and keeps the thunder even while grinding. It took a bit to get it right but now it's on.  :metal:

I used to own one back in the 90's Peter. I have been looking at them online again, thinking about getting one down the road if I can afford it, but the rig now is acceptable and $$$ at a premium these days. If the stars align I will definitely jump on one though.

Cheers!

Yeah, Kim just mentioned sending the chassis to you so you can go over it, maybe figger its major malfunction, fix it and give it a good shakedown for a bit before sending it back this way. He's PMing you about it.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers!
