Yeah but you have to admit, he didn't have much luck with his MP-1's.

That's true. He seems to have gotten his hands on every butchered MP-1 up for sale on evil-bay

Well Danny gave up on his mp-1  chase so I had the opportunity to buy his holy grail mp-1 and damn this thing sounds good, never heard an original mp-1 sounding like this. Massive amounts of useable gain !!!!

I just can't believe that DJC had so much bad luck going on there.  OMG such an insane amount of bad luck!  Something like that would make anyone swear off whatever it is that is screwing with them like that in such a bad way.  I wouldn't blame him one bit...that kind of bad luck is beyond forgiveness.  So sorry everything went that way for him, I was really looking forward to hearing what he was going to be doing with that "Holy Grail".   :(

So MJMP, speaking of that.....what's really going on with that HG unit that is making it so much more funtastic than all the other MP-1s?  I'm guessing it must not be completely stock?

Well his holy grail is indeed completely stock except for the battery mod , but that doesn't change the sound. But it does have a lot of gain and is compared to other stock mp-1's quiet, and the gain is not mushy/muddy when you go into high od settings. Now I did some measurements and saw the high voltage is slightly higher (195V vs 190V) and all the anode resistors gone up in value to about 115-120 kohm where the value should be 100k.
When I have the time I'll some more comparing to the original schematic.

Those small differences can't be the only thing that makes it sound the way it does. There has to be something else going on there/

Hey MJMP, this could lead to a "DjC Holey Grail Mod"  >:D .  I must say I was gobsmacked how many bad units DjC got sold and totally understand his frustration, one or even two maybe but so many  :dunno: , and he hung in there so long  . And where do the sellers get off miss representing the units so badly, if it got issues, say so and adjust the price accordingly...

Richard,

If they did that, then they wouldn't get more than $20.00 for a MP-1. Since the whole world doesn't know about MJMP, (luckily for Philippe), they don't have anyone else to turn to for repairing these machines when they go bad, and most techs are reluctant to touch them because they aren't the easiest thing to figure out.

Now on the other hand I don't have any problems with it like Danny had.I guess I'll have to take it apart and see why it sounds so different.

And if you find it, make it an official Mod.   "MOD5.DJC"

Guys, I'm missing you all a lot in these days.
I'm too busy on too many things all together.

I've just the time to turn my MP-1 on for 2 minutes to check if the battery is still alive (and it is....)...
I still have to remove it from the rack and also take connectors off the B200s, pack the stuff and send it to MJMP.
I'm late, I know...

By the way, I'm very sorry about all the bad luck Danny and his mate had with all those MP-1 units...
It must be some Karma, otherwise it hasn't any sense.
I hope we'll see DJC back here one day.
All the best to him with his incoming tour and his main rig!  :metal:

Phil...you've been lucky again with the HG...
And it's strange that it doesn't show that gain drop issue with you: is still working fine?
It will be very interesting to see what you'll discover about that unit and its gain: I agree that this could be the next MOD to go for!  :headbanger:

My V2/V2.01 unit, by the way, is still working fine.
No issues, less noise with new tubes (even if this is not a very noisy unit), great tones.
The only thing I've noticed is that as soon as I turn it on and play, OD1 clip led lights up and shortly flashes when I heavily play power chords on low E string.
After about 15-30 minutes, playing the same stuff, OD1 clip led doens't light up anymore...even if tone and gain seem to be unchanged.
Anyway, the unit works fine...but MJMP will see as soon as I will send it to him...and then he could compare this MP-1 with the Mighty HG!!!
