« on: Time Format »

Hi guy's, I need to repair a butterfly Catch on a a 3u rack case of mine, does anyone have any idea how I got about doing this?

I've no clue where to get spares or how to fit them.

Any advice would be appreciated as always.

Hey Gerry, you can buy new ones off amazon. Singles or pairs. Black or chrome depending on which style you have.
Looks like $15 U.S. for a pair.
I went to amazon.com and typed in rack case latches.

Yes that's what I mean, some places call it latch, catch, or lock.

I just called it catch as it seemed to bring up more results.

Thanks guys for suggestions.

I got a spare one in my sights

How the hell do I get the old one off and install the new one?  Noticed the holes  don't match with the one currently on the case that needs to come off.

Hey RG, depends how they are attached, on my SKB they are riveted so you need to drill out the old rivets and use a rivet gun/tool to install a new one.  If you want a good clean job done, I'd take it to someone who makes road cases as they'll have all the right tools etc.  Best if you can repair the current one or source the same latch or there will no doubt be issues with how it fits (or doesn't  ), there are many variations...

This is my case here.  It's rivets from what I understand.  They wont match up with the old holes from what I can see.  A rivet gun?  Jeez didn't even know what that was until you mentioned it and I checked on line for it!

This might be a bit more hassle than I anticipated

Which is why I suggested someone who builds rack cases  :dunno: , at least worth asking the question (how much to fix ?), hopefully it's cheaper than buying a new rack, another option, not my favourite choice but depends on the economics...

A handheld rivet tool is quite inexpensive; often comes with small bags of the most usual rivets.
Yeah, just drill out the old rivets, fit the new latch part to catch, drill new holes, attach the latch, rivet, and latch the catch ;)

Yeah I didn't realise until I looked into it!  Literally £5.99 gets me the tool and rivets, and this video explaining what Richard suggested basically steps me through what I need to do.  I'll order the latch this week and the tool and get riveting.  Hopefully my drill can drill out the old latch.
