MP1 MarshallJMP noise mod

(1/2) > >>

El Chiguete:
Ok so after experimenting with my gear I'm getting what I think is a great tone from having the OD1 in 4.0 and OD2 in 8.0... but I'm getting noise this way (well actually the hiss in the background from having the OD2 gain way up). I think the MP1 has more than enough gain for what I need, I play 70s and 80s classic rock and heavy metal so I don't need all the gain in the world for that!

So my question is does MarshallJMP noise mod will help with this? Does anyone have one MP1 with the noise mod and one without that can do a quick video showing up the improovement?

PS:
How do I know that is not actually time to change tubes?

El Chiguete:
Do you guys get a quiet nose/hiss free MP1 having those settings?

jarrodthebobo:
Honestly 8 on od2 is PRETTY high and is likely to sound very hissy as thats the nature of the beast really. If you NEED to use that much gain, pick up a noisegate or try to add in some od1 in place of od2

El Chiguete:
Ohh yeha I use the noise gate on my Lexicon MPX-G2 but I just  want to know if the noise mod helps for this.

My understanding is the noise mods will help quite a lot with very high gain patches (OD1 high, OD2 High), (and also to some extent the MDRT transformer upgrade will help). When you turn the gain up that much you can/should expect it to be quite sensitive (e.g. ever tried a 1972 Marshall at full tilt, bit of a beast to control  >:D , particularly with single coil strat PUs).  What pick ups you are using also make a big difference (some are much more microphonic than others).  The MP1 manual recommends (When setting your Overdrive levels, remember that low levels followed by high levels produce more noise than the reverse. High levels of OVERDRIVE 1 will produce a distortion that has high frequency harmonic saturation, whereas high levels of Overdrive 2 produce fuller harmonic saturation.).  When you run that amount of gain, everything you can do to help control it is valid/helps, i.e noise mods, noise gates etc.  As Jarrod says OD2 @ 8 is big, with lower OD1 settings this will probably be noisy but hey it should work at OD1-10 and OD2-10 but it's not just the guitar signal being amplified here, also the noise floor.
