Hi everybody,

Since couple of years I have this unit  : ART SGX 2000 (yes, the uggly one with early 90's "Vomit clown" pink painting) this unit is the first release with eprom V1.00.

I recently get the upgrade eprom files  (v1.05 & v1.10) most SGX users say the upgrade is a real + about sound, bank etc...

I've no experience about eprom burning, and when checking on the net, I have no idea about different type of eprom(UV eprom, eeprom, rom, rhum,  Ancient Rome...)  i should use (I precise ;it is a 32 pin eprom, not so easy to find)

Do every type of eprom will match with SGX ?????  (Well, whatever questions I'm not aware...)

I was thinking about buying an eprom burner (https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0716SXF9B/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A16WQB9CJ3FN6Z&psc=1),
Is this one ok ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hey Tomy

Looked for it a bit and found those 1.05 and 1.10 files. These seem to 1Mb(it) files. But they also talk about the socket, the older eproms have only 28 pins, these new ones have 32 pins. And it seems older units only have 28 pin sockets. So it could be you need to remove the 28 pin socket and replace it with a 32 pin socket. So my next question, do you have a 28 or 32 pin socket?
Else post or mail me some pics of the socket.

BTW;if you want I can burn you an eprom if you like? but first we need to make sure  what socket you have.

Hi MJ,

thank you for your quick answer.

I got any info from www.gt1.info. it was one of the best website I have found on sgx
absolutely my sgx is a 28 pin socket, but as you can check on the pic, it seems to have 4 extra soldering points that makes possible (I did not say  "easy") to replace it by a 32 pin one (maybe I should solder eprom directly on the PCB :dunno:)

I just found this socket on amazon
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B076YFRPFL/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A19GSHTT314PS3&psc=1
I think it will fit.

Well, I don't really need to burn more eproms after sgx, all my others preamp are already upgraded, If you have a burner, let's  PM about it !

It's NOT easy to get those sockets out if you don't have a decent desoldering iron. But maybe you can leave the 28 pin socket in and add 4 additional pins in those empty holes? I think i have some lying around, need to check.

PM'ed you.

Well I've seen a lot of messed up stuff  ;D

If you ruin just one trace the SGX won't work anymore. And these are tiny traces.
