Title: MP-2 #1 Total Restore required
Post by: vansinn on November 04, 2016, 06:34:38 AM
Just plugged-in my first-bought (borne?) MP-2 after a few years in hibernation.
Level, gain, loop, pots.. everything scratches and flips up'n'down..
My Ice presets do not at all sound too much like 80's Big Hair Metal

It'll require replacing all electrolytic caps, the jack with switch, both pots, all rear mini push switches et al..
Not sure I should do it now, or wait until I've re-settled sometime next year; long-term storage and shipping just could add more to it :dunno:

Or, just as a go-to for now, I could try contact cleaner - which I do not really trust other than as a temporary work-around.

All that from just storing it? Seems like dust is the culprit, unless it got banged around. Just open the case, hose it off with a pressure washer, and wait until it dries

 >:D

Ps....I do not recommend actually doing this, it's sarcasm

Too shy to openly admit I had it lying open a good while collecting dust - but I swear it was for scientific reasons! actually, it was for some mod ideas.. (which will be finalized later).
I did clean it using a thin hose on the vac, soft brush and compressed air, but alas, I think you're right about at least some of the problems: dust, though this doesn't warrant for all of said behavior.

Hehe, there's nothing the MP-2 cannot handle!
Yes, I had it left open, collecting dust, and thought I'd cleaned it well enough.

However, I can now testify that the MP-2, adding to it's other virtues, is also self-cleaning, and has a build-in de-dustificator.
I now know why it sucks more watts off the mains than the other preamps: The dust-burning self-cleaning self-healing current!

I'll go for the one liner    The MP2 is a many splendid thingy, and mine seem to breed.... and now they tell me they want new racks to go in as they've outgrown their current bedrooms... and now my US MP2 wants to vote but none of the candidates are espousing 240v power (something to do with not having enough dust-burning self-cleaning self-healing herbivores).

Where's our old icon featuring Uncle Sam with an MP-2, saying "I want YOU to use this!"
Would be decently more Genuine American than the current politicized theatrical snake oil frenzy..
